Chihuahua Guides From a Family Breeder
These are the guides we wish every new Chihuahua family had read before bringing a puppy home, written by us at Twin Cities Chihuahuas. Each one answers its question in the first paragraph, then gives the numbers we actually use with our own litters.
Most of these started as answers we gave on the phone, over and over. How big will she get? Why does he need a tube of glucose gel in the puppy bag? What is a fair price, and how do you spot a fake listing? Writing them down means every family gets the same careful answer, whether they collect from our house or meet one of us at an airport across the country.
We breed only Chihuahuas, so the guides stay narrow on purpose: one small breed, the problems that actually come up with it, and what we do about them. If you want to know who is behind the advice, our family Chihuahua breeding program page explains how we raise and weigh every litter.

How We Suggest Reading Them
Still choosing? Read the teacup guide and the full grown size guide together, because size is where most disappointment starts. A puppy sold as a 2 pound adult is a promise no honest breeder can make, and we never make it. Then read the price guide and the scam guide before you contact anyone.
Puppy already reserved? Read about low blood sugar tonight. It is the one topic we insist on going through in person at handover, and families who read it first ask much better questions. The checklist and potty schedule can wait until the week before go-home day.
Wherever you live, your puppy reaches you the same careful way: you collect from our home by appointment, or one of us flies with it in the airplane cabin and hands it to you at your nearest major airport. Never cargo.

Questions About Our Guides
Which Chihuahua guide should I read first?
If you are still deciding, start with what a teacup Chihuahua really is, then the price guide and the scam guide. If a puppy is already reserved, read the low blood sugar guide before anything else, followed by the new puppy checklist. Those two cover most of what we talk through at handover.
Who writes these Chihuahua guides?
We do. Twin Cities Chihuahuas is a family home breeder, and these guides come from the questions our families ask us before and after their puppy comes home. Where we give a number, such as a weight or a feeding interval, it is what we use with our own litters.
Are the Chihuahua guides useful wherever I live?
Yes. Most of them, such as low blood sugar, potty training, coat colors and adult size, apply to a Chihuahua anywhere in the country. Two are written for families near our home: winter care for a cold climate and local dog license rules. Families in any snowy state often find the winter guide useful too.
Do the guides replace advice from my vet?
No. They explain what we see as breeders and what we tell our own families, but your vet has examined your puppy and we have not seen it since handover. If a guide and your vet disagree about your dog, follow your vet, and tell us so we can look at the guide again.
