How Much Do Teacup Chihuahuas Cost? Teacup Chihuahua Price and Yearly Costs

What our puppies cost, why we price the way we do, how to read the much higher numbers you will see elsewhere, and what a teacup Chihuahua costs to keep once it is home.

By Twin Cities Chihuahuas, a family Chihuahua breeder based in Minneapolis. Updated October 30, 2026.

Every Chihuahua puppy we raise at Twin Cities Chihuahuas costs $700: teacup or toy size, long or smooth coat, male or female. There are no ranges and no extras for size or color. Elsewhere, teacup Chihuahua prices vary widely and often run higher. Beyond the purchase, plan on roughly $1,200 to $3,800 for the first year of care and about $600 to $1,500 a year after that, depending on your vet and choices.

Our Teacup Chihuahua Price

Every puppy on our site shows its price, its current weight and its projected adult size. There is no "message for price" and no figure that changes as the conversation goes on.

Our Chihuahua puppy price at Twin Cities Chihuahuas
Size tierProjected adult weightPriceUsual go-home age
Teacup size3 to 4 lbs$70010 to 12 weeks
Toy size4 to 6 lbs$7008 to 10 weeks

Our teacup size puppies usually stay with us two to four weeks longer than toy size puppies, until they eat confidently on their own. Those weeks mean more meals, more weigh-ins and closer watching for low blood sugar, and we do not charge for them. Size tiers exist to set expectations and care, not price. The projected size is always an estimate; a puppy can finish a few ounces either side of its tier.

Every puppy leaves our home with:

  • A vet check, vaccines for its age and deworming
  • A microchip and AKC registration paperwork
  • A written 1-year genetic health guarantee
  • The daily weight log we keep from birth
  • Starter food, Nutri-Cal or glucose gel, and a blanket carrying its litter's scent

Why Every Puppy of Ours Is the Same Price

Searches for "blue teacup chihuahua price", "fluffy teacup chihuahua price" and "applehead teacup chihuahua price" suggest buyers expect to pay more for looks or for smallness. With us, they do not. A blue long coat girl and a fawn smooth coat boy are both $700. We chose one price because tiering by color rewards a label, and tiering by size rewards smallness, which is the last thing we want a family to chase. Coat color has no bearing on health or temperament, and head shape can still change until about 6 months. You can browse by look on our Chihuahua puppies by color page; the price is the same on every one.

Teacup Chihuahua Prices Elsewhere: Reading the Market

"How much are teacup chihuahuas worth?" has no single answer, because there is no official teacup category and sellers set prices freely. In the listings we come across online and around the Midwest, asking prices for teacup Chihuahua puppies commonly run from under $1,000 to $3,000 or more, and listings using "micro" or "rare color" often sit at the top. Treat those as rough observations, not survey data. Prices shift by region and season.

What we can say with confidence is that price and quality overlap far less than people assume. A careful home breeder, a first-time litter and a reseller can all ask the same number. Some of the highest prices come from sellers who never met the mother. And the lowest ones are a favorite of scammers, who use a "bargain" to rush buyers into paying a deposit for a puppy that does not exist. Our guide to avoiding Chihuahua puppy scams covers the patterns.

What a Higher Price Should Buy You

If another seller asks for much more than $700, ask what the difference covers. A fair answer includes most of these:

  • The chance to meet the seller and the mother, or an in-person handover
  • Registration you can confirm with the registry yourself
  • A vet record from a named clinic you can call
  • A written health guarantee that says what it covers and for how long
  • Both parents' adult weights in pounds and the puppy's growth record
  • A feeding plan for the first weeks

If the answer is "she's a rare color" or "he'll stay micro", the extra pays for a label. Rescue is worth a look too: adoption fees are usually a few hundred dollars, and many adult Chihuahuas come already spayed or neutered.

First-Year Cost of a Teacup Chihuahua

These are rough national ranges for a puppy's first year in the United States, not counting the purchase price. Vet fees in large cities and on the coasts often run well above those in small towns, so call two or three clinics near you before you choose.

Estimated first-year costs for a teacup Chihuahua in the USA (rough ranges; yours will differ by region and clinic)
ItemTypical rangeNotes
Puppy vet visits and remaining vaccines$200 to $500Two or three visits, plus rabies when your vet advises
Spay or neuter$200 to $600Part of our pet contract; retained baby teeth are often removed at the same time
City dog licenseOften under $100Rules and fees differ by city
Food$150 to $350Small-breed puppy food; teacups eat very little
Flea, tick and heartworm prevention$150 to $350Dosed by weight
Starter supplies$250 to $500Pen, harness, leash, bed, pads, pet steps
Winter gear$60 to $150Two fitted coats, booties or paw wax
Puppy class$100 to $300A small-dog group class is plenty
Pet insurance (optional)$300 to $700Price it before the first vet visit
Estimated total$1,200 to $3,800More if anything goes wrong

Two lines catch new owners off guard. The second winter coat, if you live where winters are cold, because a wet coat on a smooth Chihuahua is worse than none. And the dog license: most cities and counties require one, the fee is often lower for a spayed or neutered dog, and the rules vary, so check with your city or county before the first reminder arrives.

How Much a Teacup Chihuahua Costs Per Year After That

Once the puppy year is over, a healthy adult typically costs about $600 to $1,500 a year: food, a yearly exam with boosters, parasite prevention, the license and replacement harnesses or coats. A 3.5 pound adult may eat only a quarter cup or so of dry food a day, so food is the smallest line.

The line that grows is teeth. Chihuahuas pack a full set of adult teeth into a tiny jaw, and many need a professional cleaning under anesthesia every year or two. Depending on the clinic and whether teeth need pulling, that can cost several hundred dollars to well over a thousand. Daily brushing from puppyhood is the cheapest way to push that bill back. Over a life that often passes 14 years, the dog will cost many times what the puppy did.

Costs That Run Higher for a Teacup

  • A small-dog vet. Clinics experienced with dogs under 5 pounds are worth a slightly higher fee.
  • Emergency visits. A puppy with low blood sugar, or a leg broken in a fall, needs care the same day. An emergency fund or insurance covers it.
  • Safety gear. Pet steps for the bed and couch, a soft harness and a well-fitted carrier.

Our Opinion: Never Pay Extra for "Micro"

If one sentence on this page sticks, make it this one. A seller charging more because a puppy will "stay under 2 pounds" is charging more for a dog with less reserve against low blood sugar, fractures and dental trouble. Nobody can promise that size, and we never do; our page on what a teacup Chihuahua is explains why. Spend that money on a good vet instead. That is how we run our Chihuahua breeding program for families across the country, and every current price is on our teacup Chihuahua puppies for sale page.

Teacup Chihuahua Price Questions

How much do teacup Chihuahuas cost?

Every puppy we raise is $700, teacup or toy size, and every listing shows it. Elsewhere, asking prices vary widely, and in listings we see they often run from under $1,000 to several thousand dollars. A higher price does not prove a healthier puppy, so compare what comes with it: vet records, registration, a written guarantee and a breeder you can meet.

What is the average price of a teacup Chihuahua?

There is no reliable average, because teacup is not an official category and sellers set prices freely. Listings range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand, with micro and rare color labels at the top. Ours is simple: every puppy we raise is $700, whatever its size, coat, color or sex, and the price is on every listing.

Does a fluffy or blue teacup Chihuahua cost more?

Not with us. Every puppy we raise is $700, so a long coat, a blue, a chocolate or an apple head puppy costs exactly the same as any other. Some sellers charge more for coats or colors they call rare. Color and coat have no effect on health or temperament, so we do not think they are worth paying a premium for.

How much does a teacup Chihuahua cost per year?

After the first year, a healthy adult typically costs about $600 to $1,500 a year for food, a yearly vet visit, parasite prevention, a license and small supplies, depending on your clinic and choices. Many Chihuahuas also need a professional dental cleaning every year or two, which can add several hundred dollars or more each time.
