North Dakota families looking for Chihuahua puppies often find the nearest home breeder is in another state. We breed Chihuahuas in our home in Minneapolis and nowhere else. From Fargo the trip is a long day by car; from Bismarck west, one of us usually brings your puppy to you on a flight, riding in the cabin the whole way.
Every puppy here is $700 and can reach North Dakota by car or by cabin flight. The table shows coat, age and our estimate of adult weight.

North Dakota is wide, and the right answer changes as you go west.
From Fargo it is about three and a half hours east on I-94, a long but very doable day in good weather. Bring a second person to sit beside the carrier, leave early, and stop once around Alexandria on the way back to offer a few bites of food and a little water inside the warm car.
Carry the puppy rather than setting it down at a busy rest area, and keep the Nutri-Cal or glucose gel in your pocket. If the puppy turns limp or wobbly rather than sleepy, rub a little on its gums and pull over.
West of Jamestown, a winter drive to us and back with a new puppy is more risk than it is worth. A twelve hour round trip leaves you tired on the most important day of the puppy's life.
Instead, one of us flies with your puppy in the cabin and hands it to you at the Bismarck, Minot or Fargo airport, or another airport with a flight from MSP. The puppy rides under the seat in front of us, and you drive only from your local airport.
Drive times are approximate for clear roads on I-94 or I-29. Flights to the smaller airports depend on the current schedule, so we confirm a route with you before anything is booked.
Anyone who has driven I-94 across eastern North Dakota in January knows the problem: a clear blue sky, thirty mile an hour wind, and yesterday's snow blowing across the road so thick you cannot see the car ahead. The state can issue no-travel advisories and gate sections of the interstate. Check the 511 road reports for both states before you leave, and in spring, remember that snowmelt and Red River flooding can close local roads around Fargo and Grand Forks.
| Where you live | Approximate drive | Usual plan |
|---|---|---|
| Wahpeton | About 3 hours 15 minutes | Drive |
| Fargo and West Fargo | About 3 hours 30 minutes | Drive, two people in the car |
| Valley City | About 4 hours | Drive in summer, fly to Fargo in winter |
| Grand Forks | About 4 hours 45 minutes | Fly to Grand Forks, or drive in summer |
| Jamestown | About 4 hours 45 minutes | Fly to Fargo or Bismarck |
| Bismarck and Mandan | About 6 hours 15 minutes | Fly to Bismarck |
| Minot | About 7 hours | Fly to Minot |
| Dickinson | About 7 hours 30 minutes | Fly to the closest airport with a flight from MSP |
| Williston | About 9 hours | Fly to Williston, schedule permitting |
The person who hands you your puppy is someone who has been feeding it since birth. Our Chihuahua delivery page has the full detail.

Our Chihuahua winter care guide was written for Minnesota, and every word of it applies in Fargo or Minot. The short version:
North Dakota families ask us this more than anyone: can we meet in Fergus Falls, or at a truck stop in Alexandria? We say no, every time. A parking lot handover means the puppy changes hands in a hurry, in the cold, with nobody showing you how it eats or what the warning signs look like. It is also exactly how puppy scams work, and we never want our families to get used to it.
We are not a North Dakota breeder and will never claim to be. We are a family who breeds Chihuahuas only, raises every puppy in our home and does not resell puppies from anyone else. We weigh every puppy daily, and that log goes home with it, which matters more when your nearest vet has rarely seen a two pound puppy. Teacup size puppies, projected at 3 to 4 lbs, usually stay with us until 10 to 12 weeks. Read more about Twin Cities Chihuahuas, then send the free adoption application and tell us your town. We contact you within 24 hours.
North Dakota has few dedicated Chihuahua breeders, so many families look east. We raise Chihuahua puppies in our home in Minnesota, about three and a half hours from Fargo, and fly them farther west in the airplane cabin. Our current puppies are on the available puppies page, each with age and projected adult size.
No. We do not hand puppies over in parking lots or at gas stations. Your puppy comes home one of three ways: you collect it at our home, someone you trust collects it for you, or one of us flies with it in the airplane cabin and hands it to you at your airport.
Yes. One of us carries the puppy in a soft carrier under the seat in front of us on a flight from MSP, then meets you just outside security. Bismarck, Minot, Fargo and Grand Forks typically have flights from MSP, but schedules to smaller airports change, so we confirm the route with you before anything is booked.
Yes, indoors, with a plan. Train the puppy to an indoor potty area before December, use a coat for every outing, and keep trips outside to a minute or two when the wind chill is below zero. Chihuahuas do well in cold states because their owners adapt the routine, not because the dogs toughen up.
Every puppy we raise is $700, whatever its size, coat or color. It includes the vet check, vaccines for age, deworming, a microchip, registration papers and the written genetic health guarantee. Ask us about the in-cabin flight for western North Dakota; we explain how it is arranged once your puppy is reserved.
